Leika Sensory Tables

Sensory play is an engaging, highly stimulating play experience that often incorporates the five senses while building motor skills, creativity, mindfulness, and brain development.

Sensory play brings children back to the fundamental elements of authentic self-directed play - creativity, fine motor skill development, imagination, technology-free.  While engaging in sensory play they become more independent and build neurons in their brain which leads to problem-solving.  In addition, by engaging many of the five senses they begin to make connections with the world around them and regulate their bodies and emotions.

Our sensory tables are a great vehicles for self-directed play. They are handcrafted, weather resistant, and meant to last for many years of creative play.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • A sensory table is the vehicle to deliver sensory play in a beautiful and practical way. It invites children to be creative and imaginative. It also helps contain sensory play, which can get messy as children explore different materials. The beauty of Leika’s sensory table is that it is designed to function indoors and outdoors with its weather resistant paint and stain. Children can come back to the sensory activities over and over again.

  • If your kids can stand, they can play on a sensory table! Our table is designed at a height that is accessible for children as young as 12 months while not being too low for your big kids, too. We would recommend the table for children ages 18 months to 10 years old.

  • The possibilities are endless for what sensory materials can go in the table. Our sensory table has a great water feature, which is ideal for water bead kits (link). Rainbow rice (link) is a perfect base to encourage fine motor practice - scooping, pouring, etc.

More ideas: sand, pasta, water, beans, and more. Learn more about sensory bases on our blog.

  • The beauty of having a sensory table is that it is always available and invites play at any time. Because you don’t have to pack up the sensory toys or put the table away after each use, your children will play, walk away, and return often.

We regularly see children play at our tables for an hour or more at a time and it is significantly harder to pull them away from the table than to get them to spend time engaging in high level play!

  • Our standard sensory table measures 41" Wide 20" Deep 36" Tall (21 1/2" tabletop). It includes two plastic sealable bins and is treated and weather resistant. Hooks are provided for toys and a removable water bin with a spigot for water-based play is hooked above one of the bins. We also provide a stand for an umbrella (not included). Our handcrafted sensory table has a white base and cedar top and back.

Mitch loves working on custom orders, as well. He can adjust the height, number of bins, the water feature, color, and just about anything else you can imagine. If you’re interested in a custom table, reach out to Mitch at leikasensorycreations@gmail.com to work out the details and pricing.
